Corsets of the 1890s

Around this decade germs are discovered and sanitary undergarments become a concern

Women become more athletic, bringing specialized undergarments

The industrial revolution brings mass production of garments, including corsets

The power of advertising has been discovered and ads for corsets become more common in period publications

Spoon busks become very un-common and are used only in specialized "abdominal" corsets.

By the end of the decade most busks no longer "dished" (a dished busk curves inwards at the base, twords the abdomen).

These new "strait front" corsets are the latest fashion around 1898-1899.
